Who We Are
Virginia Solar, LLC was formed by a team of veteran renewable energy professionals. Based on their decades of experience developing several thousands of megawatts of greenfield wind and solar projects, the Virginia Solar team has developed a portfolio of several hundred of MW of utility-scale solar projects. Virginia Solar currently has more than 125 MW of solar capacity in operations or under construction and will remain involved in these projects on a long term basis through its affiliate Virginia Solar Land Holdings, who controls the project sites.
Virginia Solar’s first project, Scott-I Solar (17 MWAC) located on 180 acres of harvested timberland in Powhatan County, was placed into operation in December 2016. Virginia Solar sold the Scott-I solar project to Dominion Virginia Power.
Virginia Solar’s second portfolio consists of four individual solar facilities, each of which are 20 MWAC in capacity: Buckingham Solar I, Sappony Solar, Scott-II Solar, and Correctional Solar. Virginia Solar signed a power purchase agreement with Amazon Web Services and sold the portfolio to Dominion Energy Inc. The solar projects were placed online in 2017.
Virginia Solar’s third project, UVA Hollyfield Solar (17 MWAC) located on 160 acres in King William county will start construction 2017 and be operation in 2018. Virginia Solar sold the UVA Hollyfield solar project to Dominion Virginia Power.
In total, Virginia Solar has completed eleven Conditional Use Permits in Buckingham, Powhatan, Mt. Jackson, Louisa, New Kent, Sussex, Middlesex, and King William counties which is (as of December 8, 2017) more than any other solar developer in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Five of these projects with a combined nameplate capacity of 97 MWAC (more than 800 acres of solar panels) are scheduled to be built in 2017.
Virginia Solar is working on the development of numerous solar projects throughout Virginia for construction in 2018 and beyond.
